Today's look features an Instagram trend: the Princess/Crown/Tiara makeup look! First created by Marissa Melhron, this look spread across Instagram instantaneously - starting the trend. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to give it a try *___* But I had to wait until I found the original creator - so I could give her all the due credits... This took me a while because seems like no one credited her in the first place. Which is sad and unfair: please always credit the creators whenever you get inspired by a look/ideas/whatever. It's a sign of respect towards the artist and his/her work!
And now, without further ado, here's my attempt at this royal make up!
And now, without further ado, here's my attempt at this royal make up!
I've seen many different versions of Marissa's crown make up - featuring glitters, crystals, negative spaces... There's seriously something to everyone's liking! So I decided to create my own version as well, instead of simply replicating an already existing look! I watched her tutorial (here) as main reference, to learn the technique - then I went ahead on my own.
I selected all the products I felt suited the most this look, plus all the colours needed to achieve a perfect mermaid princess makeup (aka aqua/green/teal/purple)! I also added Swarovski crystals - and since I decided to skip the eyeliner this time, I used Klimt to draw the crown shape... And I'm glad I did, it added a lovely, royal touch to it!
Here's how I created this look in detail.

Here's how I created this look in detail.
After applying the eyeprimer, I started off with the crease blending - as shown in Marissa's tutorial: I applied, in sequence from top to bottom, Shore Thing, Dragonfly and Shark Bait (all shadows by Makeup Geek Cosmetics). I used all blending brushes to do so, in order to apply the colours and blend them at the same time. I went back and forth each shade until I was satisfied with the overall blending. On the brow bone I applied Antique White by NABLA, as usual.
Done that, I moved to the crown shade: first of all I applied a cream eyeshadow to draw the basic design - and I used Morning Glory by NABLA Cosmetics, which is matte and nude shade, perfect for this purpose. After the crown shape was completed, I applied a foiled eyeshadow by MUG - Pegasus, the most glittery eyeshadow I own. (I wish I had real glitters, but Pegasus worked just fine!)
Once I was done, I applied a gold liner all around the shape - and as I said previously I used Klimt by NABLA Cosmetics. This liner gave the perfect royal touch to this look!

I was unsure until the very end whether to add winged liner or not... Finally, I decided not to. You know I love eyeliner, but this time the look was already perfect without it... And since sometimes less is more, I skipped it for once.
For the lower part of this look, I decided to use purple shades - for both lid and waterline. I applied a purple eyepencil as base and then I layered one of my favourite Celestial eyeshadow by NABLA, Selfish, then I blended it with a soft touch of Hopscotch.
I applied the same pencil on the waterline (huge mistake: it gave me irritation soon after, making my eyes water. I barely managed to take the pictures ç_ç). Then I applied false lashes and mascara, as always.
Lastly, the finishing touch: I added Swarovski crystals on top of each point, to complete the crown design.

I really hope you like this look!
I'm really proud of it - even though the crown lines are a little wonky, meaning the angle is a little wrong... But, overall, I think it came out pretty well, especially since it was my very first attempt at this technique!
