♕ Part of My World ♕ Makeup Geek Cosmetics ~ Eyeshadow Pans Haul! ♕{Swatches, Comparisons & First Impressions}

I'm so excited I'm finally able to post this haul! I had to postpone and reschedule it so many times I was seriously loosing hope of ever being able to post it.

This year I was lucky enough to receive ten Makeup Geek Cosmetics eyeshadows as birthday present ♥ I've been willing to try out their shadows from quite some time - so you can imagine how excited I was (and still am) to get all these beauties *___*

Like I said, I got ten eyeshadow pans in total: nine of them are from the "classic" range, while only one of them is from the Foiled range (personal choice, I wanted to try first and see whether I liked this kind of finish or not).

When doing my wishlist, I made sure I listed colours I didn't have already in my stash. It was crucial, to me, to pick up something new and unique - no need of dupes.

In terms of finish, eight out of ten are matte shades. I know, it's quite groundbreaking and apparently contrary to my personal taste - as I've always declared my deep love for shimmer shades. The brighter, the better - as my friend Misato would say. Truth is, though, that I realized how important matte shades are. It's not a matter of tastes anymore - my style, my technique evolved quite a bit... And I've been feeling the urge to expand my makeup stash to matte shades for quite some time, lately.

Makeup Geek's eyeshadows are only available as refill pans - meaning you just get the pan with no other packaging (apart from the case, obviously). Needless to say, they're meant to be placed in magnetic palettes, giving you the option and freedom to put together your personal palette. Any kind of magnetic palette will do the trick, I personally love NABLA's Liberty palettes but you can use Z-Palettes, MAC's magnetic palettes... And customize your very own palette.

In terms of diameter, they're just like MAC eyeshadows' pans - but contain a little more product (1.8 g vs 1.3 g).
Instead, they're slightly smaller than NABLA's ones (which contain about 1/4 more product, 2.5 g vs 1.8 g).

Just like NABLA's refill pans (and MAC ones, I assume), each pan comes into a nice cardboard pack, and it's held in place by a second piece made of thin cardboard. To be honest, it didn't feel quite stable, I had to be reallllly careful while opening the flaps and pulling the pan out. (I prefer NABLA's system where the pan is actually stuck into the cardboard)

Each pan has a label on the bottom, so you can keep track of all the names!
On the back of the pack, you'll find the ingredients list.

Let's see each shade in detail!

Shore Thing: "A true pastel, mint green with a matte finish"

Really pale sea foam shade. So gentle but not poorly pigmented, mind you! Being so light it's perfect as transition shade, but I can't wait to try it all over the lid (along with the following shade) for a pure matte total look! Also great for any kind of pastel look - I'm going to try and do a pastel makeup as soon as possible!
(I used it as transition shade in my Princess Ariel look!)

Dragonfly"Bright medium teal with a matte finish"

It's more emerald than teal in my opinion - nevertheless, it's a very rich shade, perfectly matte. Very very bright and eye-catching. Great colour payoff even with just an hint of product.
Gorgeous if paired with Shore Thing! (I tried them together already and they make such a good combo!)

Shark Bait"Blue based green with a matte finish"
...In other word, a great teal shade *_* It's matte, but it seems to have a subtle sheen in it. It's the colour of the Little Mermaid's tail ;D
I chose it with the intention of using it as transition shade for my teal/green looks - but it's too pretty to confine it just to that.
(I used it in my crease/outer corner in my Princess Ariel look!)
Pegasus"Light, bright aqua with a foiled finish" (Foiled)
This is the only foiled I got - and it's absolutely stunning. Unique. There are both aqua and turquoise in it, it's filled with so many gold/silver/aqua sparkles - yet it's not truly glittery. Its finish is metallic and almost "mirrored", if you know what I mean. It's beyond silky - feels more creamy, actually. Definitely my favourite shade already XD
(I used it on my lids in my Princess Ariel look!)

Poolside"Bright shimmery teal with specks of gold"

Swimming pool blue in all its beauty *_* One of the only two shimmer shades I got (apart from Pegasus, of course).
Although it seems very very bright from the pan, it's actually a medium shade. Makes me think of Caribbean waters, it's SO beautiful.
It's the only one shadow that feel a little "harder" in the pan, compared to the other - which are all so silky and easy to pick up. Thankfully, this doesn't compromise its application too much.

Neptune"Matte bright blue"

Another unique shade I absolutely needed in my stash. Not pure blue though - it has like an hint of purple, or better, some periwinkle in it. So hard to properly capture in picture!
I recently tried it as eyeliner - and it's absolutely amazing! (I can wait to try all the other shades as eyeliners too, of course *_*)

Boo Berry"Denim blue with gray undertones and a matte finish"

A matte blue shade was highly needed in my stash, and I chose Boo Berry because, again, it felt unique. Not too bright, not too deep. Not enough dark and saturated to be a navy blue.
Very versatile - great as transition shade but also all over the lid.
Chit Chat"Medium periwinkle with a shimmery finish"

I fell in love with this shade at once. Another periwinkle shade, with some purple in it. It's gently shimmery - meaning it's not glittery or really really sparkly (but not matte either).
Unlike Poolside (the other shimmery shade I got), this shadow feels almost creamy.
(I used it on my lower lids in my Princess Ariel look!)
Hopscotch"Bright iris with a matte finish"

Pale and light lilac (really hard to capture, on my monitor looks quite cold and blue toned, but it is not). A matte lilac-ish shade was very high in my wishlist, and so far I'm glad I chose this one.
It's such a sweet, fairy-like shade, stunning on the lids but also as transition shade. Just like Shore Thing, it's very gentle but not poorly pigmented. (I used it on my lids in this look and you can see how pretty and rich it is!)

Fashion Addict"Medium orchid purple with a matte finish"

When I saw it once I got it, it made me think of cyclamens. It's BEAUTIFUL! I needed a shade like this so badly.
Its colour payoff is amazing - reminds me of Dragonfly's.
This is the only shade I haven't tried yet sadly - I focused on the teals and, poor thing, this one was left out. I plan to dedicate a whole makeup look to it as soon as possibile!
Now let me introduce you my palette *_*

I love this shades all together *_* This palette feels so mermaid-y and so me!

Each shade has a great colour payoff - even the lighter ones - and are so easy to blend. They all feel silky and smooth - apart from Poolside, that is a little "harder", almost raspy. Pegasus, instead, feels so creamy (probably because it's a Foiled shadow) and it applies like a dream *-*
They're not dusty, and I haven't noticed huge fallout while doing my make up so far. Which is a very good pro for me, I hate when my cheeks end up covered in fallout XD
Each shade is very true-to-pan, apart from Poolside that is slightly darker than it looks. (It is, like, the outsider of the situation)
My first impressions, as of now, are really positive. They all seem to be long-lasting, not prone to fallout, pigmented, easy to blend. The price point is pretty good (6 $ each for the pans, 10 $ for the Foiled ones), definitely cheaper than other brands. Mine came from an European seller (Beauty Bay), so the price is slightly higher - still worth it though.
For the Eyeshadow Pans ingredients list, please check this page on MUG site.

For the Foiled Eyeshadows ingredients list, please check this page on MUG site.
The following pictures are quite big, so click to enlarge!
I did my best to find a decent natural lighting but, due to unstable weather conditions, light varies a little from picture to picture.
Each shadow was applied dry, with no primer underneath.

First of all, I swatches all the shades. In the following picture you can see all the aqua/teals.

While, in the following one, I swatched the remaining ones (blues/purples/etc). Sorry but I couldn't make them fit all ten in my arm at the same time ^^"

Regarding the comparisons: being all unique shades in my stash it almost felt useless doing comparisons - but then I realized that they could still be useful, especially if you have a lot of NABLA shadows like me and have some doubts.

For example, I wondered whether Hopscotch and Lilac Wonder where similar somehow. Well, finish apart (matte vs satin), they're not close at all. Hopscotch is more blue and cooler than Lilac Wonder - that is way more lilac and feels warmer.

I also wondered if Fashion Addict was a matte version of Cattleya - and, nope, it is not. Fashion Addict is warmer, as you can see (and again, never mind the different finish).
Chit Chat stands out, being very bluish and very periwinkle XD

Regarding the teals, I was pretty sure they were all unique - and they are, as you can see. I only wondered if Shark Bait was close to Babylon - it is not, definitely. Shark Bait is brighter and surely way more teal than both Babylon and Under Pressure. In fact, it is my ideal teal shade ♥___♥

The blues are sooo different from each other! NABLA's one are both so deep and dark - while Boo Berry is brighter and more blue (since there's no black in it, unlike the NABLA ones). Neptune is a completely original shade, with its periwinkle-like hue.

Here are all the aquas. Again, each shade is clearly unique: Pegasus is Caribbean blue, while Atmosphere has more green in it. Shore Thing is a true pastel shade, non-comparable to Zoe, which is so subtle and light not to Atmosphere that is darker and greener.

I made an additional swatch picture, comparing Poolside e Pegasus to a pure Caribbean Blue pigment:

Dreamy Aquamarine is my go-to light blue pigment and I was a little worried that Poolside could be a dupe. Thankfully it is not, because Dreamy Aquamarine is brighter and lighter, while Poolside is a little darker. Pegasus, on the other hand, shows a gentle aqua hue that makes him different from the other two.

♕ Helix Eyeliner ♕

I've just realized that I completely forgot to post this look on here o___O" I was SO sure I posted it - like, weeks ago, right after New Year's Day. Where-was-my-head? D:
Well, at least I noticed in time - poor this look, forgotten in the drafts section -   and I'm going to get back on track this very second!

So, in today's post I'm going to show you my very first attempt at the helix eyeliner technique - which is pretty famous on Instagram, I've seen sooo many different styles and finally I decided to give it a try. This was another good occasion to use Klimt - aka the ever-present-lately Dazzle Liner by NABLA Cosmetics aka my current obsession.

Being the first time attempting this design, I kept it easy: there are, like, endlessly ways of doing the helix eyeliner - single helix, double helix, just on the wing or on the whole line, two helix wrapped together... And so on. I decided to go for a single helix, just on the wing of my black eyeliner. Very simple yet still very noticeable - especially since I used Klimt, which is so eye-catching.

To match the gold helix, I decided to do a goldish eye makeup. Nothing elaborate actually.
(Please note: all the eyeshadows used are by NABLA)
After applying the eyeprimer (this time I used the Crème Shadow in Morning Glory), I applied Danae on my inner corner, followed by Cleo all over the lid. On the outer corner, crease and lower lid I applied Unrestricted: I carefully blended it into Cleo where needed, creating a smooth gradient.
I used Petra as transition shade - it's the perfect matte warm shadow for this kind of looks.
I applied Antique White on my brow bone and Nocturne on the lower lashline - by doing so, I was pretty much done with the shadows.

For the eyeliner + helix liner I proceeded like this: first of all I traced the black line (as always, using a black liner that is essentially a black pigment mixed with some drops of Fix +). I made sure the outer wing was a little longer than usual - the longer the wing, the more "loops" you can draw.
Then I took Klimt and started drawing the helix from the outer corner, right below the wing: I moved up and applied the gold liner on top of the black one, designed a curve, moved down and skipped the wing, then I designed the curve below... And repeat.
I was a little worried that the two liners would mix together, when I applied Klimt on top of the black eyeliner... But it didn't happen at all, phew. Well done, Klimt!
I made sure I liked the curves, fixed here and there if I felt the need... Then I applied falsies, mascara and black eyepencil on the waterlines - and I was done.

♕ Fairy Queen Make Up #2 ♕{Inspired by a Sergey/Milk1422 Face Chart}

Hey everyone! I'm currently stuck in bed with a very bad cold, unable to complete the Makeup Geek haul post - I'm quite unlucky with that, am I not? - but thankfully I have a special makeup to show you so... Here it is!

Today I'm going to show you another inspired look - to be more precise, inspired by a face chart made by an amazingly skilled artist on Instagram, Sergey aka @Milk1422. Check him out, you won't regret it, he creates the most stunning and artistic face charts ever.
This particular one gave me fairy vibes - so I considered this look like a 2.0 version of my previous Fairy Queen look... Hence the title ;D

While browsing on his profile I found this face chart - one of the first he ever posted actually - and as soon as I saw it I thought: "I need to try it!" *_*
The style, the lines, the swirls, the small details... Everything was calling me. So, at the first opportunity, I did my own version of it.

I had never attempted to recreate a makeup from a face chart before, so I made sure to study the design as carefully as I could - but I soon realized I'd do some things differently.
For example, I could not figure out completely what shades were used on the lids - pale browns? Taupe? Dark purple/brown/? Black? I wasn't really sure. There are some hints of violet here and there - so I decided to deviate and chose the lid shades on my own, focusing on lilac, violet and purple.
Also, the eyeliner looks so thin on the chart - I'm still not that sure that there's actually a real line - but I drew that in my usual way.
Ironically, the gold lines and swirls and details gave me close to zero problems. Must admit, this chart caught my attentions because I instinctively knew I could use Klimt (Dazzle Liner by NABLA). It really makes this kind of designs SO easy to draw!

First of all, I applied eyeprimer - this time I used Too Faced's Shadow Insurance Original. As I said previously, I decided to go for lilac and purple - so I applied Hopscotch by Makeup Geek Cosmetics all over the lid. I chose this particular shade because it's so gentle and matte, I thought it would get along pretty well with the rest of the look.
On the crease and outer corner I applied Mimesis by NABLA, trying not to pack too much colour: I wanted a subtle blending. And, speaking of blending, I used Hopscotch again as transition shade.
On the lower lid I applied Cattleya by NABLA which, contrary to the previous shades, it's not a matte shade. On the face chart the violet on the lower lashline is quite visible, that's why I used a brighter shadow.
Before moving to the liners, I applied a pale yellow pigment on the inner corner (which I later used as eyeliner), Antique White on the brow bone and a nude eyepencil on the lower waterline.

Now the fun part: lines and swirls and dots *_*
I started off with the black liner, the easiest one. I mixed, as always, a black pigment with some drops of Fix + to create my black eyeliner - and then traced a classic line. Then I moved on the gold ones and I used the Dazzle Liner in Klimt by NABLA - even though on the chart it looks like he used an ochre liner, but whatever XD
I drew the top ones first, trying to following the original design as closely I could. Not big deal, really, I was done in a matter of seconds. Then I added the dots and moved to the lower design, much more elaborate. I started in the middle moving towards the inner corner, drawing the inner small lines, dots, and swirl. Once I was satisfied with those, I moved back toward the outer corner and patiently drew the curls.

I mixed that pale yellow pigment with some Fix + to transform it into an eyeliner and traced the additional line under the brow bone, and added the small details and additional swirl on the lower design. With the black liner, I added the half-moon shaped details (which were probably brown or purple on the chart, but I kept it simple).

I completed the look with false lashed and mascara on both lower and upper lashes, as usual.
Oh wait! The brows. As you can see, on the chart the brows are very pale, blonde/yellowish. I didn't feel like doing something like that (I don't have the right products) so, once again, I decided to keep it simple. I defined my brows and filled in as usual - using the Brow Pot in Mars by NABLA - and then, as a bonus, I applied randomly Klimt.

And we're done! It was a long process, also a little bit tricky, but a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y worth it!
I always feel so pleased and proud of myself when I achieve this kind of artistic looks *_* Makes me want to keep experiment, improve and try new techniques and styles!

♕ Graphic Liner Inspired by Lucinda212 ♕

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, those past two weeks were crazy and I had almost zero time to sit down and blog peacefully. Finally, finally, weekend's here and I have some spare time to write!

I'm still working on the Makeup Geek haul post, which is taking way longer than I anticipated (I took a bunch of pictures and made a lot of swatches and comparisons) - so, since it's not ready yet, today I'm posting this graphic makeup look I did no later than 10 days ago. It's inspired, once again, by one of my favourite IG artist's work: Lucinda212.

Lucinda's version (see picture above) featured all silver shades with tons of glitters, rhinestones and even teeny tiny stars. I wanted to reproduce it by using Klimt - yeah, once again and nope, I'm not tired of it yet - meaning my version would be gold, instead of silver.
I don't have any glitters nor stars, just an handful of Swarovski crystals - but Klimt is so special and sparkly that fills this gap.

First of all, I applied Morning Glory (cream eyeshadow) all over the lid, both to prime it but also to even it out (and, later, to clean the edges).
I started off with Klimt, and I drew all the lines following Lucinda's design. Must say, I had no problems with the golden parts: Klimt has such a teeny tiny brush that allows to trace the smallest and more precise lines with incredible ease. The formula, on the other hand, is not too dense nor too liquid - which also helps a lot.
Ironically, I had way more troubles with the black parts XD My eyeliner brush is very thin but not as Klimt's - plus I made my eyeliner myself, mixing a black pigment with some drops of Fix + and its consistency always varies. That day it turned out a little too dense, which didn't help. Anyway, with quite some patience and, like, double of the time required for the gold parts, I managed to draw also the black lines.

The worst was over. I cleaned some of the edges with Morning Glory (I usually don't need this step, but this look has a lot of edges XD) and then I moved on to the final touches.
I applied Danae all over the lower lid - I chose this shade because is goldish and filled with tons of glitters. I applied Nocturne on the lower lashline, then the usual black eyepencil on the waterline.
After that, I added false lashes, applied mascara, filled in and defined my brows.
Lastly, I applied randomly some Swarovski crystals on the inner part of the eye - while I placed three of them precisely between the black lines (as I didn't have enough space under the brow).

And that's it! I know it looks really complicated - but with the right eyeliners, it's absolutely doable. I had so much fun recreating it, adding my own touches and personal style to it!
I wish I could show you how it looked in real life: so. flipping. sparkly *____* Honestly, I don't think it needed glitter at all, with Klimt being, well... Klimt XD

♕ The Mermaid Series ♕ Princess Ariel ♕{2017 Edition}

The Mermaid Series is back... With a very special makeup look!
A personal tradition of mine is to create a look inspired by my favourite Disney Princess (guess who XD) on my birthday... And so I did this year, of course! Although I am a liiittle late with this post since my birthday was two days ago, whoops XD

Every year I manage to make the same makeup look different to the previous ones. The first one (2015 version) was created using mainly mineral makeup; last year's (2016 version) was way more Nabla-centered.
So... "what now?" you may wondering.
Well, I was lucky enough to receive some MakeUp Geek eyeshadows as birthday gift from a family member! (The haul post with swatches will be up next week, I'm already working on it!)
So, that being said, this year's version was the perfect opportunity to welcome this brand into my stash - thus it was very MUG-centered! *_*

This is look is pretty iconic and special to me, so I keep the colour scheme more or less the same: aqua/teal gradient on the upper lid, lilac/purple shades on the lower and Swarovski crystals as final touch. The outcome tends to vary since I use different products, but overall the vibe, the spirit of this look is the same.

I was so eager to try out the new shadows I got (I picked up 9 eyeshadow pans + 1 foiled), so I did my best to use as many as I could for this look. (Not a big deal honestly, since I chose aqua, teals, blue and purples shades XD You'll see better in my haul post).

I started off by applying an eyeprimer, as usual. This time I used Too Faced's Shadow Insurance Original. First of all, I applied a pale but bright and shimmery aqua shade on my inner corner - and I used a mineral pigment which I'm pretty sure I used also in both previous versions of this look. (Note after a quick check: yes I did). It's very unfortunate that this mineral brand (Jade Minerals) doesn't exist anymore.
Moving to the upper lid, I used Makeup Geek's Foiled Eyeshadow in Pegasus on about 3/4 of the lid. This shade is amazing: so bright and sparkly and metallic *______* (I regret a little not asking for more foiled shadows XD)

On the outer corner & crease I applied Shark Bait (from the "classic" eyeshadow pan range), a matte, bluish-green shade. I created a soft V shape with incredible ease: this shadow practically blends itself as you go - without loosing its intensity.

To add depth to the outer corner of the lid, I applied Under Pressure eyeshadow by NABLA Cosmetics. It got along with Shark Bait wonderfully, adding depth and sheer to the matte blending (after all, you hardly choose matte shades for a mermaid look, don't you?).
As transition shade I used another shadow by MUG - a matte mint green named Shore Thing. I have a feeling it will become my go-to transition colour whenever I make an aqua/teal/green look! I applied Antique White on my brow bone, then I moved to my lower lids - where I used two more shades by Makeup Geek.

First of all I applied Hopscotch (a matte pale lilac), then I applied Chit Chat (shimmery periwinkle) very close to the lashline. On the lashline itself I applied Nocturne by NABLA.
Eyeliner time: the usual black mineral pigment used wet with Fix +.
I completed the look with false lashes, mascara, black eyepencil and - of course - swarovski crystals... In a teal shade this year, instead of clear.

Final note regarding eyebrows and lips: this time I went back to MAC's Eyebrow pencil in Strut - because Mars is not red enough... And I had to use something reddish this time for my brows XD Lips were red too, of course - I just forgot to take a picture D:

Must say, this year's version is my favourite so far ♥___♥ Especially in terms of shades, those MUG shadows are so gorgeous and fitting! I know I say this every year - but I can't really get tired this look... I will probably never be!

And from now on this makeup look will be more meaningful than ever, because it matches so nicely a very special dress...

If you follow me on Instagram you probably have already seen this dress (this picture was taken during Christmas-time) ♥ It was amazing - pardon, mermazing! - to spend the holidays and my birthday wearing it *___* Now I feel I found the perfect makeup - plus, as you can see, I found the perfect clutch... which happens to be the Glam Clam by Spectrum Collections XD (Yeah it's a makeup brush case but yes, it works nicely as clutch too :p)

Anyway, back to the makeup: I think I will wear it not only on my birthdays but also every time I'll get to wear this dress! (Needless to say, can't wait for Carnival XD)
